The Paceñoscome to buy miniatures of material goods, and pray that these will be given to them in reality.
This traditional Paceñofestival is dedicated to Ekeko, the Aymara god of abundance and fertility. It dates back to 1781, when the governor of La Paz wanted to create a festival in honor of Ekeko, to thank him for having delivered the city from the troops of Túpac Katari. In order to obtain the favours of the deity, the Paceñoscome to buy miniatures of material goods (cars, houses, washing machines...), praying that these be given to them in reality. On this occasion, more than 5,000 artisans gather at the Campo Ferial del Bicentenario.
