PARROQUIA DE SAN SEBASTIÁN
One of the first churches in Latin America, founded in 1548 and known for the statue of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza
Founded in 1548 by Captain Alonso de Mendoza, founder of La Paz, it is one of the first churches in Latin America. The statue of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza was placed in the altar in 1552. The parish has a tumultuous history: destroyed during the siege of La Paz in 1781 by Tupac Katari, then rebuilt, then burned down in 1885... It was restored several times afterwards, but unfortunately it has lost its colonial aspect today.
