PLAZA MAYOR
Square surrounded by the Basilica of San Francisco and the Lanza covered market, the scene of events and a popular meeting place
The Plaza Mayor has been the scene of the largest political demonstrations and rallies in Bolivia. During the elections, the campaigns of the different parties ended here. In normal times, the square is one of the places in the city where people like to meet: tourists, Paceños and fairground charlatans may try to sell you a supposedly original piece of Tiwanaku... The square is surrounded by the San Francisco Basilica and the Lanza covered market. From there, the very touristy Calle Sagarnaga also starts.
