SAN LAZARO PARROQUIA
The church of Saint Lazarus, built in 1544, is one of the oldest in the Audiencia de Charcas
The church of Saint Lazarus is one of the oldest in the Audiencia de Charcas, since it was built in 1544. It served as a temporary cathedral until 1559. Its role was to catechize the Indians. Unfortunately, this parish preserves very little of its original structure, except for its exterior walls, which have no decoration. Inside the building there is an altarpiece attributed to Andrés Hernández, a sixteenth century sculptor who did many works in Chuquisaca. There are also some paintings of the apostles.
