René Bonifaz is a luthier specializing in the manufacture of charangos, but he also makes guitars, mandolins, harps and even "inventions" such as the charango-estrella... He was behind the "Potosí, cuna del charango" (cradle of the charango) project, whose sculpture stands in the main square, in front of the cathedral. He is one of the region's greatest craftsmen (and artists, as he has quite a local biography!). Be sure to visit his workshop in Calle Quijarro, just around the corner (ask his son in the store).
