Pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Virgen de Chaguaya, 67 km southwest of Tarija. Legend has it that in 1750, some shepherds returning from their fields, exhausted by months of drought, saw a bright light that turned into the Virgin Mary. The next day, at the place of the apparition, they found an icon of the Virgin and decided to erect a chapel to her glory. The present shrine, declared a basilica some years ago, was built in the 1980s.
