Originally a German who had a colonial cottage built, this site has since welcomed travellers from all over the world. Located on the southern edge of Amboró Park, the chalet has only six simple but well-kept rooms. From the hammocks on the terrace, there is a superb view of the surrounding "sugar loaves". Very copious restaurant. The Refugio is well worth a visit for the excursions on offer: 15 km of trails through the forest where you can observe 270 species of birds and about a hundred different orchids, breathtaking scenery.
