Valley marked by a star, where Che and his compatriots were denounced to the armed forces, a signpost indicates the way
On 26 September, Che and the last surviving guerrillas decide to go from La Higuera in the direction of Pocara. On the way, they meet the army. Clashes take place and three of them lose their lives. So they decide to turn back towards Vallegrande. After crossing a dense forest, they arrive at the Quebrada del Churo. The river is so strong that it is impossible to cross. They get stuck here. In this valley, they are dominated from all sides, and Che himself will reveal in his memories that the area is very dangerous and that they should not linger. They cross the road of a peasant woman and her goats, who will keep silent until the end. On the evening of October 7, they cross the path of another peasant farmer who then grows his potatoes. He was afraid and went as far as La Higuera and denounced the presence of the revolutionary troops in the armed forces. On October 8, the trap closed in on them and the army occupied the surrounding slopes before gradually descending to capture, after six hours of confrontation, Che and several of his colleagues (others managed to escape). The captured guerrillas were then transported to La Higuera. The Quebrada del Churo represents the end of the struggle for Che. The place is marked by a star, more or less well maintained. The place is less than 3 hours walk there and back. A sign indicates the way to follow, otherwise ask the inhabitants of the village for help.
