The National Cinematheque of Mexico City was founded in 1973, with the aim of preserving the art of Mexican cinema and promoting cinematography in the country. The original building was destroyed by fire, and the current building, with its beautiful futuristic ceiling and open spaces, dates from 1983. It shows many previews of films, but above all a demanding selection of national and international films. The place is also known for showing controversial films. A real film buff's den.
