The first bull of bulls that was organised in the Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City took place on 5 February 1946. Every year, therefore, there is a bullfighting-anniversary to commemorate the event. Then follows a dead period until April-May, when officially begins the first bullfighting season of the year, the Temporada de Novilladas, so called, because the bullfighting pits young bulls to young toreros who have not yet taken the alternative.
