On September 15, 1810, the priest Miguel Hidalgo calls the faithful to rise up against the colonial authorities. This event marks the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence. On the evening of September 15, at 11:00 p.m., the head of state rings the bells in the Zócalo square of Mexico City and shouts " ¡Viva nuestra Independencia! ¡Vivan los héroes que nos dieron patria! ¡Viva México! ". The crowd responds to each of these harangues with a " Viva ", and then fireworks are set off.
