The Iglesia de la Santa Veracruz is one of the oldest churches in the city
The Iglesia de la Santa Veracruz is one of the oldest churches in the city. Originally, its construction was ordered by Hernán Cortès to thank God for his happy arrival in the New World, and was completed in 1586. Due to floods, earthquakes and subsidence, the church had to be rebuilt in the 18th century and is still standing today. The famous Spanish architect Manuel Tolsá is buried inside.
