MUSEO DEL ESTANQUILLO
Museum exhibiting the very diverse collection of objects that the Mexican writer Carlos Monsiváis gathered during his life
This museum exhibits the very diverse collection of objects that the Mexican writer Carlos Monsiváis gathered during his life (1938 - 2010): toys, posters, engravings and lithographs, photographs, calendars, piggy banks, etc. All of them provide information about the identity of the inhabitants of Mexico City and the customs of the country. The building where the museum is located was built at the end of the 19th century to house the famous gallery "La Esmeralda Hauser-Zivy and Company", which specialized in the sale of exclusive pieces of jewellery, works of art and music boxes.
