MUSEO FRANZ MAYER
Museum exhibiting the main collection of decorative arts of the country with a predilection for the colonial period
It was once the Hospital of San Juan de Dios, inaugurated by a Spanish doctor in 1582, with the aim of caring for abandoned children and the non-Spanish population who had no access to health care. It evolved and was enlarged over the following two centuries. Since 1986, this museum has been exhibiting the country's main collection of decorative arts (the collection comprises a total of 11,000 works), with a special focus on the colonial period. An adjoining room houses more current temporary exhibitions, focusing on design and photography.
