MUSEO SOUMAYA
Museum with more than 6,000 works from the magnate's universal art collection, from pre-Columbian times to the 20th century
This recent museum, which opened in 2011, is owned by Mexican multimillionaire Carlos Slim. On display on six floors are more than 6,000 works from the tycoon's universal art collection, which spans thirty centuries (you read that right!), from pre-Columbian times through the 20th century. The building designed by architect Fernando Romero is original, with its hexagonal aluminium tiles. The collection (including sculptures by Auguste Rodin) is very beautiful, but the museography is non-existent. A pity, even if the visit remains interesting.
