FUERTE DE SAN DIEGO
Fort that houses the Museo historico de Acapulco, tracing the history of the Pacific coast of the country.
Built in 1615 by the Spanish Empire to contain English and French pirates, the fort was refurbished to its present form in 1776, when it continued to house a garrison of 2,000 men. After being used as a convent, hospital and prison, it was restored in 1986 and now houses the Museo Histórico de Acapulco. This small museum traces the history of the country's Pacific coast and displays relics from the pre-Hispanic era and objects from the War of Independence. The place also offers a beautiful panorama on the bay of Acapulco.
