GRUTAS DE CACAHUAMILPA
Majestic and enchanting site to visit in Taxco, being part of the most incomparable natural wonders of the country.
This majestic and enchanting site is one of the country's most incomparable natural wonders. You simply can't miss it if you're visiting the state of Guerrero. The cave is colossal, with 90 immense galleries, of which only 20 are open to the public, reaching up to 82 m in height. The underground labyrinths are over 2 km long. It's a feast for the eyes to contemplate the fabulous stalactites and stalagmites, and to hear the drops of water falling to the ground, creating a murky, calm and enveloping atmosphere. Warning: the path is very slippery, and you may need to buy a walking stick at the entrance to the site for a few pesos. Bring good shoes. Inside, it's pitch-black most of the way. In recent years, however, the government has installed lighting to enhance the beauty of the limestone formations. For safety's sake, the government has instructed visitors to move around the cavern with an official guide, who can be found at the entrance to the site. So be prepared to give in to explanations like "Here we have the elephant, here the lovers, here the old lady's face...". The national park also offers hiking, climbing, zip-lining, camping and, if you're lucky, underground concerts with exceptional acoustics!
