The two-story building was built in 1627 and is one of the most beautiful and emblematic buildings in the city. Built in 1608, the original building was remodeled during the 18th century. Completed in 1786, its tower contains the oldest public clock in the city. The story goes that the watchmen used to climb to the top of it to watch for arrivals in the port. The building was occupied by French troops in 1862.
