ISLA DE LOS SACRIFICIOS

Isla de los Sacrificios is a small piece of land, very close to Veracruz, located a few kilometers from the beach of Costa Verde.
The Spanish set foot there at the beginning of the 16th century and discovered human remains, apparently sacrificed to the god Tajín. This small piece of land, very close to Veracruz since it is located only 2.3 km from the Costa Verde beach in Boca del Río, is part of the Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano national park. The fauna that surrounds it is rich: in its sky, the peregrine falcon and the seagull, on its land the boa constrictor and the iguana vert ; and in its waters: turtles, angelfish, barracudas, tunas, marlin and tarpons that shine like metal. It is also a highway used by hammerhead sharks during the migration holidays in April, August and September. In May and June, it is the dolphins' turn to come and enjoy the beautiful corals.
For more than 20 years, the island has been closed to the public because the government has been working to restore the coral reef and preserve its ecosystem. The service providers who offer their services on the Villa del Mar beach, near the Aquarium, are therefore content to bypass the island. However, the trip is worth it. In addition to the pleasure of admiring the coast from the ocean, you will discover "Cancuncito", a place where the Gulf Sea is the colour of the Caribbean Sea. We lend you a mask and snorkel to get you in the water.
Other providers offer their services on Regatas beach and Antón Lizardo beach. The itinerary of the walks varies according to the providers, which is why it is advisable to ask in advance.
