MISION NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LORETO
Church in Loreto, with an inscription: head and mother of the missions of Baja and Alta California.
Although the mission was founded in 1697 by Father Juan María Salvatierra, the construction of the present church took twelve years, from 1740 to 1752. The inscription "Head and Mother of the Missions of Baja and Alta California", which can be read at the entrance, testifies to the prestigious past of this religious institution. Among its ornaments, the carved wooden frame, numerous paintings and especially the magnificent altarpiece in the Baroque style, painted in blue and gold, are noteworthy.
