A group of pyramids that form a perfect triangle dedicated to the patronal triad of the city in Palenque.
After Pakal's death, his son Kan Bahlam II, the serpent-jaguar whose representation appears on the Templo del Sol, acceded to the throne at the age of 48. He first completed the Temple of Inscriptions and its large panels covered with glyphs. Then he had El Grupo de Las Cruces built on a hill upstream, to glorify his link with the gods, as his father and ancestors had done before him. This group of pyramids, which forms a perfect triangle dedicated to the city's patron triad, consists of the Templo de la Cruz, the Templo de la Cruz Foliada and the Templo del Sol, each of which is a kind of symbolic steam bath, representing the birthplace of each of the three deities associated with it. The lace-like ridges that cover the upper parts of the temples are a perfect illustration of these decorative details of the sites in the region. Other temples, later, will complete the top of the hill. It should be noted that a hundred ceramic incense burners have been found on the site, the majority of which were found on the whole of Las Cruces : these were used to receive the resin and blood that flowed from the women's tongues, which they themselves pierced with obsidian needles or manta ray spines. At certain ritual periods, they were replaced by new ones and buried at the base of the temples. The cross-shaped engravings on some buildings represent the Ceiba tree, which the Maya considered sacred.
