Aldea Xbatun is a restaurant run by a Mayan, Yucatecan family.here, good food and atmosphere come together in a special way: a local meal to share on one long table, where you can watch your tortillas being made and prepared... This restaurant, not fancy but very original, offers high-quality dishes with ancestral recipes and in-house creations. You can enjoy pumpkin seed and tomato dishes , roucou-marinated chicken and much more. For dessert, for example, you'll have home-made chocolate sweetened with honey... Aldea Xbatun also offers a cooking workshop in a rural community in the heart of nature. During this session, you can learn about theMayan cuisine inherited from their ancestors. We took part in the shorter class featuring Sikil Pak (tomato and pumpkin seed tacos), chicken pibil, (marinated chicken slow-roasted underground in a pit oven, or pibil) and cacao with melipona honey. The Agua Fresca de chaya ("Mayan Spinach") with lime and melipona honey was an unforgettable welcoming gesture.
Visiting this idyllic Mayan aldea is like walking into a magical dream and being treated with the warmth and kindness of generous family.
