MEXICO WATERJETS
Cozumel, Mexico's third-largest island, is a popular tourist destination thanks to its crystal-clear waters and coral reef. Declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, the island offers numerous activities, heavenly beaches and magnificent sunsets. Cozumel is also an interesting alternative when sargasso is present on the Riviera Maya coast. The island's east coast is particularly free of this algae. To get to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen, you can take a ferry with Winjet or Ultramar. Fares are similar for both companies, at around 290 pesos MXN for a one-way adult ticket with Ultramar and 220 pesos MXN with Winjet. Ferry schedules vary, so it's advisable to check the timetables on the companies' websites. For those who prefer to travel by car, it is possible to catch the ferry at Calica, south of Playa del Carmen.
