ZONA ARQUEOLÓGICA EL CHANAL
Site on the banks of the Rio Verde, considered to be the most extensive prehistoric settlement area in the state of Colima
This site is considered to be the most extensive pre-Hispanic settlement in the state of Colima. Located on the banks of the Rio Verde, it was at its peak between 1000 and 1400 AD and includes several plazas, platforms, ball games, and a pyramid where hieroglyphs representing Tlaloc are carved. The name of the site "Chanal" comes from the myth of pre-Hispanic origin according to which deities called "chanos" live near the rivers.
