OFFICE DU TOURISME
Tepic, the capital of Mexico's Nayarit state, is a city that combines modernity and tradition. With a population of around 332,850, Tepic is the most populous city in Nayarit. Its history dates back to the 16th century, when Nuno Beltrán de Guzmán founded the colony of Espíritu Santo. Tepic is also known for its impressive geography, situated at the foot of the Sangangüey volcano and crossed by the Mololoa river. To get around town, options are limited: cab, bus or walking. Not-to-be-missed sights include the Cruz de Zacate Church, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the former Bellavista textile factory, as well as several museums such as the Regional Museum of Nayarit and the Regional Museum of Tepic. Visitors can also enjoy the surrounding nature by visiting the Juan Escutia Park or hiking through the forests to observe the wildlife. As for shopping, tourists can find handicrafts made by the Huichols and Coras, as well as sculptures, pottery and silver jewelry. For food lovers, Tepic offers a variety of traditional Mexican dishes to sample, such as tamales de camarón and pescado zarandeado. Finally, Tepic's surroundings also offer interesting tourist attractions, such as the port of San Blas, the La Tovara nature reserve and the island of Mexcaltitán.
