PALACIO DE GOBIERNO
Palacio de Gobierno with a large courtyard surrounded by columns and arches, retracing the history of Mexican independence
Elegant building emblematic of the 19th century, of Mexican architectural style, inaugurated in 1892 after 10 years of work. It was partially consumed by fire and a second floor was added in 1941, without affecting the overall harmony. Its vast and luminous courtyard is surrounded by columns and arches and its walls are covered with frescoes on the history of the region, painted by Piña Mora between 1956 and 1962. On the ground floor, the modest Museo de Hidalgo timidly traces the history of Mexican independence, as well as that of the city from 1530 to 1910.
