CATEDRAL OF ZACATECAS
Cathedral of pink ashlar with statues of the apostles and the Virgin, main altarpiece with sculptures by Javier Marín.
It is one of the most beautiful in Mexico, built between 1729 and 1752 in pink ashlar, although its two towers are later. It has statues of the twelve apostles and a smaller one of the Virgin. The interior, which is very sober compared to the Baroque façade, was once filled with silver and gold ornaments, tapestries and paintings; its altarpieces were replaced in the 19th century by neoclassical works and the main altarpiece is now contemporary, adorned with sculptures by the artist Javier Marín.
