MUSEO DEL VIRREINATO
Museum in a former convent exhibiting paintings and objects from the colonial period and a collection of wrought iron objects
The former convent of the Carmelitas Descalzos, in which 32 nuns lived, was built in the mid-18th century. Today it houses this museum which exhibits in seven permanent rooms furniture, paintings as well as different objects from the colonial period. Also to be seen is a very fine collection of wrought iron objects. Its temporary exhibitions, installed in two dedicated rooms, are notable. But the visit is worth it just for the architecture. A discovery not to be missed, in the heart of the historic centre.
