CATEDRAL OF MONTERREY
The cathedral alone symbolizes the difficulty and self-sacrifice of the first settlers to settle in the Monterrey area.
The construction of the cathedral alone symbolizes the difficulty and self-sacrifice of the first settlers to establish themselves in the region at the expense of the natives. Begun in 1626, it was not until 1800 that the baroque portico and the first part of the tower were completed. The sacristy has beautiful liturgical paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The walls of the presbytery are decorated with a fresco dating from 1946, whose general character is between the Byzantine style and that of Simone Martini, except for a remarkable turquoise base.
