The Théâtre national Daniel Sorano is the country's national stage. The theater was inaugurated in 1965 by President Léopold Sédar Senghor. It is named after the Franco-Senegalese actor Daniel Sorano, whose interpretation of Cyrano de Bergerac on Senegalese television was a great success. The theatre can accommodate over 1,000 spectators. The Daniel Sorano National Theatre actually comprises three independent but interdependent structures: the Ensemble national de Ballet, the Troupe nationale dramatique and the Ensemble lyrique traditionnel. The theater was renovated in 1999. The theater offers a varied program of theater, dance and music performances.
