SAINT-JACQUES CATHEDRAL
Seat of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the cathedral was built in the 11th century and is the nerve center of the Armenian quarter. The current building includes some older elements, including the chapel of St. Menas, which dates back to the5th century: according to Armenian tradition, a small, highly ornamented room houses the head of St. James the Greater, the first martyred apostle, who was beheaded by Agrippa I in 44 AD. This is undoubtedly the most beautiful church in Jerusalem, with its 18th-century earthenware-covered walls, carpets, oil lamps and incense.
