CARDO
This ancient shopping alley dates back to Roman times. It ran through the old town, from the Damascus Gate to the Zion Gate, and was decorated with two rows of columns. The northern section to rue David dates back to the Roman period, while the southern part dates back to the 6th century, during the Byzantine era. Discovered in the 1970s in the heart of the Jewish quarter, it was excavated over a length of some 200 m. A reproduction of the "Madaba map", a Byzantine mosaic depicting Jerusalem in a church in Jordan, is located in the excavations.
