KNESSET
The Knesset is the unicameral parliament of the State of Israel. It met for the first time on February 14, 1949. The 120 members of the Knesset are elected for a 4-year term by universal suffrage on the basis of almost full proportional representation. The building housing the Knesset, atop the Givat Ram hill, is the work of architect Josef Klarwein (1893-1970). It was inaugurated in 1966. The lobby is decorated with superb tapestries and a mosaic by Chagall. The tour, which lasts around an hour, provides an insight into the inner workings of this institution.
