To the south of the New City, between the German Colony and Yemin Moshe neighborhoods, Jerusalem's first railway station was built in 1892 and remained in service until 1998. Left derelict for many years, it reopened in 2014 and is now a major leisure and entertainment center. There are a number of stores, cafés and restaurants that attract customers of all ages, especially families. It's a meeting place, especially on the Sabbath, when everything stays open - a rarity in Jerusalem.
