DAVIDSON CENTER
The Jerusalem Archaeological Park combines an exhibition of ancient vestiges found on the site with the most modern techniques to make the visitor experience the different stages of construction of the city through the ages. A fascinating visit!
This impressive archaeological park is located on the south wall of the Temple Mount, on the edge of the Western Wall. It can be accessed from Dung Gate. It is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Israel. There are ruins from the Second Temple period, the Byzantine period and the Islamic period. You can go back in time by observing the ritual baths, used by pilgrims for spiritual purification, by climbing the steps of the Temple, by strolling through the Byzantine houses, or by admiring Robinson's Arch which once spanned the paved street and supported a gigantic staircase connecting the street to the Temple Mount.
The museum was built in the basement of a building dating from the 8th century, scrupulously preserved and enhanced. After passing through the glass gates and down the stairs, you can admire works of art and coins from various archaeological excavations. Highlight of the visit: an interactive virtual reconstruction of the Temple which will allow you to imagine exactly what the place looked like in the Second Temple period (guided tour only, to be booked in advance). You'd think!
