Maskit is a haute-couture house founded in 1954 by Ruth Dayan (wife of Moshe Dayan), who wanted to preserve the ethnic and Jewish craftsmanship of Israel's communities. She used traditional embroidery techniques inspired by Hungary, Yemen and Bulgaria. Maskit was worn by iconic figures such as Audrey Hepburn. The business ceased in 1994, and was taken over a few years ago by Sharon Tal, a young fashion designer who took up the challenge of re-establishing Israel's first and only couture house.
