In 1918, Nahum Zemach founded the Habima Hebrew Language and Culture Company in Moscow. In 1928, the company moved to Tel Aviv. Thirty years later, Habima was officially recognized as Israel's national theater. With a cast of some 80 actors, all the major companies perform here. Since the major renovations of the last decade (2007-2014), the theater has been located on Habima Square, a vast, flower-filled esplanade well worth a visit.
