In Israel, the Day of Remembrance dedicated to the 6 million Jews killed during the Holocaust is a national day of remembrance. It begins on the 27th of the Hebrew month of Nissan at sunset and ends the following evening. Entertainment venues close and ceremonies are held. The next morning, a siren sounds for two minutes throughout the country, cars stop, pedestrians stand still and everyone pays tribute to the victims of the Shoah.
