THE GREAT SYNAGOGUE
It is impressive and imposing, so it's not surprising to learn that it is the largest synagogue in Israel. It was inaugurated in 1926. In the 1930s, Ze'ev Rechter, a member of the Bauhaus movement in Israel, added an arcade to it. The synagogue was renovated in 1970. It was at this time that the famous concrete arches, which have since become emblematic of the building, were added, giving it its modernist side.
