THE AMERICAN COLONY
Immerse yourself in this neighborhood built by American pilgrims at the end of the 19th century, with its typical wooden houses.
Evangelical Christians from Maine founded this micro-neighborhood in 1866. It's a timeless place, far removed from the Mediterranean and Oriental ambience of Jaffa and Tel Aviv. You'll stroll among small wooden houses and cute cottages! Towards the end of the 19th century, American settlers sold this small territory to the German Knights Templar, who built Emmanuel Church, the heart of the district. The neo-Gothic church (1904) was almost completely rebuilt after the Germans were driven out in the 1940s.
