SYNAGOGUE OF EIN GEDI
During the Roman and Byzantine periods (2nd to 6th centuries), the oasis of Ein Gedi was home to an important Jewish village. On the site, there are the remains of an ancient synagogue, with a very well preserved mosaic floor (6th century). It was built at the beginning of the 3rd century and is modest in size and trapezoidal in shape. It underwent several transformations in the 4th and5th centuries. It was completely burnt down, probably during the reign of Justinian (second half of the 6th century), a period of persecution against the Jews of the Empire.
