It's a very sacred cave for the Jewish world. The prophet Elijah is said to have hidden there in the 9th century BC, to escape from King Ahab. But the cave is also sacred to Christians, as Jesus is said to have hidden there with his family. There's not much to see here apart from the view, but a visitor center is planned as part of future renovations. From the grotto, you can walk to the Carmelite monastery of Stella Maris. Please note that to visit the grotto, you must wear decent clothing. Separate entrance for men and women.
