The Haifa Museum of Art is one of Israel's leading art museums. Founded in 1951 in honour of an exhibition dedicated to the painter Marc Chagall, it has occupied the present building (an old school) since 1977. The museum presents an interesting collection of about 7,000 works from the mid-18th century to the present day, mostly from the 20th century and of contemporary Israeli art: paintings, sculptures, drawings as well as photographs and videos. There are also temporary exhibitions of artists of different nationalities.
