AL-JAZZAR MOSQUE
Right in front of the citadel is the mosque Al-Jazzar, or "white mosque", whose dome and minaret dominate the old town. It was built in 1781 by the Ottomans, on the foundations of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross dating from the time of the Crusaders. In front of the mosque itself, there is a pleasant inner garden where buried it pacha Al-Jazzar and its successor, Soliman. At the entrance, a small fountain is intended for the fidèles of the faithful. As in every prayer place, visitors must be dressed decently.
