Louis Marie Caffarelli (1756-1799) was a military engineer who accompanied Napoleon during the conquest of the city. The loss of a leg in one of the battles in Europe did not prevent him from continuing to serve in the army. During the siege of Acre, while passing along the tunnels, he was shot by a Turkish sniper. The doctor had to amputate his arm. Despite this operation, Caffarelli died after two weeks of gangrene.
