The Samaritans, whose religion is called Samaritanism, define themselves as descendants of the ancient Israelites. They are one of the oldest populations with a written history. Their existence is attested as early as the 1st millennium BC in Samaria. By the5th century, their population had risen to over 1,200,000, but is now down to around 750. This museum, located on one of the community's sacred sites (Mount Gerizim), will enable you to learn more about its history and religious rites.
