3.2 kilometers southeast of Nablus, before the Balata refugee camp, stands the Greek Orthodox church that marks the site of the well said to have been dug by Jacob. It is also here that a Samaritan woman is said to have offered water to Jesus: the jar of water she used is preserved in a glass case at the top of one of the church's columns. The well, meanwhile, is more than 40 metres deep: a crypt was dug to access it.
