The remains of this ancient synagogue (late 6thc. ) were discovered in the basement of a private house. The owner preserved its remarkable mosaic depicting a menorah (seven-branched Hebrew candlestick), a schophar (wind instrument used in Israelite ritual since antiquity) and a lulav (palm branch). An Aramaic inscription invokes "peace on Israel". The house is often the site of conflict between Jews and Palestinians.
