The church, dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria, is the seat of the Latin parish and was built next to the Basilica of the Nativity in 1881 by the Franciscans. It is here that the midnight mass (in Latin) is celebrated on December 24, which is broadcast on television throughout the world. A staircase leads to several underground caves with chapels dedicated to several figures: St. Joseph, the Holy Innocents and St. Jerome. One of them is said to be the one where, in 384, Saint Jerome translated the Bible into Latin.

pour la grotte
Par rapport à sa belle voisine, cette église n'a comme seul intérêt que ses grottes souterraines.
