The Omar Mosque is located in Bethlehem's main square, opposite the Basilica of the Nativity. It is the only mosque in the square. It was built in 1860 on land donated by the Greek Orthodox Church and named in memory of Caliph Omar, who conquered Jerusalem and came to Bethlehem in 637. It was renovated in the 1950s. Non-Muslims are welcome to visit, provided they are decently dressed.
